Welcome to our new site. We have entered the new realm of Web 2.0 by reverting our coding back to the basic language of HTML or Hyper Text Markup Language (I think). Because we are not using Flash, you can now send this very article through to you iPhone, your friends or as a post to your "Oh, so fascinating" MySpace page. I'm in the now because I'm connecting. I'm even going to spend 3 days next week learning all about how to get even more connected. I look forward to the near future of shared posts, group knowledge, mass wisdom.
Yet, despite all the hype, I can't avoid sensing that this may all be for naught. The fact that I have reverted back to the basics from a Flash site to HTML is one indication. Maybe it's the logic behind hearing at least 5 people mention how they jumped on Twitter for a week only to realize that it's too overbearing and a waste of time. Will MySpace be renamed YSpace? Will Twitter evolve to just rants and be renamed Bitter.
Long-gone is the belief that technology brings convenience and convenience brings freedom. No way. To be really engaged in the new world means clicking on your Blackberry in between the Entrée and the Main. It means neurotically feeding all your new friends with Tweets from Tweets you received regarding Tweets you Twittered yesterday.
As we enter into this new engagement, I speak from my Captain's chair in embracing this new way of doing things and taking it for what it can provide. However, as I write this, I realize that it is never a substitute for a real meeting - with you. It can never beget real friendships. Why, because friendships both at home and at the office start and continue with trust. As such, technology can't build trust - it facilitates information.
So please Share my thoughts but never feel shy to pick up the phone to talk one-on-one (Blackberry's turned off).
Hope you enjoy the new site!
